What I discovered today:
Ian Clarke is a cross between Matt Smith and Alan Rickman. He’s also the supreme god of the flute and perhaps one of the greatest musical geniuses of our time.

The masterclass went really well! My performance must’ve been pretty good because Ian had a bunch of positive things to say. He also had lots of good ideas for things I can improve. And his recital tonight was stunning to say the least (QUARTER TONES, CIRCULAR BREATHING, AND SINGING AND PLAYING, OH MY). I’m far too exhausted now to say more, but I felt like today gave me a big confidence boost and some much-needed inspiration.
Also, tell me who you think is the best flutist in the world right now. I always thought it was Pahud, but Clarke might give him a run for his money. My dad is convinced that Ian is #1.
